Today I want to honour the Life of Colleen Bender...

who passed away yesterday.

Colleen was 

COLLEEN'S COTTAGE 

Melbourne

She supplied so many divine creations imported from USA in 1990's when for most of us we could only dream of buying this sort of thing in Australia.

Colleen & I shared so many moments & long conversations on creative … 

we bounced idea & the enthusiasm grew & grew.

She was one wonderful lady & helped me in my early journey in so many ways.

I was trialling some new colours & combinations yesterday with the birdy buttons

I was trying all sorts of projects....with what I had close by !

How simple ...

How stunning 

by using some buttons, ric rac & ribbon & maybe a stitch or 2 !!!

 A swag / banner of triangles....

Hearts ... stuffed & loved !

Gift bags....

Frames...

Stockings...

Little bags....

hoops.

It doesn't have to be the linen/cotton I use 

Felt with some wool mix in it will be firm & soft at the same time & 

will do a different look..

Fabric

if the fabric is patterned & busy for buttons buffer that with a little strip....

Simply put teacups and a bright orange flower....sitting on a bright happy coloured strip of fabric over a linen?cotton mix heart shape.

I have been doing a few of these with bright birdies and whatever floats by me on the table.

 Today in my post a book arrived that I had ordered

GOING BACK 

The second book of

Munjed Al Muderis

who was a former refugee from Iraq and was treated very poorly in our detention system to become an amazing orthopedic surgeon who uses implants through osseointegration .

I first saw his story on Ahn Doh a brilliant man also with many talents who arrived also as a refuge from Vietnam....

then on my Instagram followers the other day came a fake site with came Mudjed's photos but a different "Dr's name   

I was a little curious 

Funny though the following afternoon I sat to paint & listen to Conversations on Radio National ABC

the interview was with 

Munjed Al Muderis

We are so fortunate …..

Sadden he was treated so badly by our own...

I listened to his journey back in Baghdad to help many amputees in the country that he fled.

In the conversation I learnt of this book and also a previous book

I ordered Going Back that afternoon & it has arrived.

This melted in with Insight this week Tv program on SBS in regards to loneliness & how this has affected many,,,, this was all after the killings in Christchurch.

3 stories where bigoted antics are played out & in many sources today encouraged

Does it take that much to be polite, to smile & accept others and to value human nature

just plainly for how you treat them when presented to them in the street, perhaps out shopping, on social media, in your groups.

One thing I am really proud of is when Country Friends & Woodcutter's Daughter set the first

GATHERING OF HEARTS AND HANDS in 2001 September 

We made a very conscious decision that everyone was greeted and if arriving alone we escorted them to a table & got some welcoming happening...….to feel included.

We made sure that we connected the 80+ people.... 

Many formed new friends from other parts of Australia & who met back up the following year.

Plus we had the best weekend ….

That is what it should be about....

I love the blue colour.....

it brings other happy colours along with it....

A pleasant way to bring cheerfulness into our lives...

For me it is like being in the garden, 

with flowers blooming in every corner of the garden....

it brings a serenity... 

takes away the harshness of the world

Simple sewing projects, add one happy button...

 if you please some small coloured stitches...

This is a great little bag to also do in felt...

Add to a frame.... needs only some glue !!!

I love the clarity of the button colours that sit there just in such simplicity .

I had so much enjoyment painting these fabric pieces etc at the end of yesterday I painted more to use as tags as well as decorations

 

I have discovered what buttons go well together.

For me it is another way of telling the story..

I am considering doing some of these as a selling item for you to use in your own projects

I have the fabric loitering & it is a little effort to paint & stamp.

small batch now & then perhaps

I love to freely float through life these days.....

I had been looking for some fabric backing & came across the tag affair...one of the samples I used when teaching this fun technique..

Mmmm I thought I might do some advent thing with this..

So a journey began ….cut with my crooked scissors ( I can never cut let alone draw a straight line)

fabric …. which has the best weave between linen & cotton mix & linen & cotton mix LOL

Painted with 2 tones straight onto my cut out little pieces...

Had to wait a short while for this to dry ,,, find one of my tins of Cavallini  stamps and my writing big stamp is nearby

A little stamping happens & not exact or placed perfectly.....it's where it lands really.

If you do this hold back on too much & do more than too little ..but you know that may work well too ?

Buy some of my delightful array of buttons or get what you have bought out......

& see

grab that stash of ric rac, ribbons maybe tiny glass beads etc

for embellishing or ribbons as a tie.

Do these things have a use ??? 

But of course !

Christmas tree decorations ( do a small tree full)

Tags for gifts...

maybe make them into a bunting

or

make the little pieces into bags for advent 

Easter is soon & I thought do Easter Tree on twig like tree hand lots of bunny buttons ones & flowers 

I haven't explored that further as bunnies have got a bit thin in my stock boxes

I also think flowers & what great way to tag a gift or make a happy bunting or even glue it all to a card as gift with some saved flower seeds from your garden.

Now I have made a promise to me & it starts with paperwork blah !!!

BUNNIES EVERYWHERE !!!

Happy little bunnies......some now are quite old designs but for me many never age.

Bunny Love has arrived back a few in a tweeny size & the other is the standard size it was & another batch have been painted chocolate for Marg Low Designs where she uses Bunny Love in one of her projects that are going to the Adelaide Quilt & Craft show in March.....

The Running Rabbit is back in a slightly larger size...

& there is one Bunny thread winder came in for a special request & 

I added just a few more...

Aside from my world of buttons 

WHEAT 

it takes what I can only guess are minute amounts in I think is a cross contaminated flour , but could have been imported this way too.....

Has happened twice since I have made up my own pizza base with this new "friend" that will be binned today....

( not a $1 bag of flour either )

If the people who handle this would feel what I feel right now 

You would NEVER do that or you WOULD LABEL ACCURATELY.

One of my delightful family members had a few words on I may avoid foods …..it is a bit of a battle at times to get understanding & in some quarters it will never change UNLESS it raises it's head in their health...

I will say & then I will stop grumbling 

Health is amazing once this was removed from my diet....& it was so boring 20 + years ago but I was over this constant stomach ripping so happy to have got a solution ….so when these sorts of things happen I am really peeved !!!

Scarf and Brooches

 This divine scarf was made for me from some muslin fabric I did adore but would never use...until Jan said she would make scarves..& she did.

 Lovely thin ones which I will wear often...because I love them to bits, they are soft, sweet fabric design & right size for me.....

I decided to toss the scarves & then pop a brooch on them to take a picture for Instagram... how well they look I decided to take some more pics...

I was telling Jan of how I used buckles to rein in some overflow from shirts

 and at times to make it look more stylish that was a tip from another some years ago now...

And what an excuse to collect plastic or diamond buckles....
