Closes for enrolments on JUNE 2nd...2014
Buy your spot on the website www.theodoracleave.com paymenst are not processed until posting is about to start at end of June.

I began to do a bit with a new stencil in an hour I had before an appointment yesterday
In a moment a stocking shape already cut in linen began a new life with hearts & top & toe and the winter snowman button & a snowflake decorating it.
Some boxes were fiddled with..
&
Each time I get to play like this the excitement of the AUGUST WORKSHOP in MELBOURNE is so perfect a day of play...
So all who have already booked... bring some extra plain linen bits or linen & cotton mix  ...but we will have extras on sale that day..
But
I am thinking this stencil stuff the big one with bird in cage will be a cushion.....
I did do the same with the pale blue stripe in the picture & used the paris Flea market stencil
Works wonders as well....
It'll be such fun... well I will be having fun !!!

Samplers

I had time to finish these samplers yesterday...
You know what I found the hardest thing ????
....to cut the fabric I had painted !!!
I thought a heart shape would look great on the little book box..
It looks fabulous without any embellishment except a tiny stamped French word on woven tape.
The frame also is great with the fabric....as is ....
it would depend how each stamp lands on the fabric..
Nothing is planned you see....
I think I need to work on the little mache book some more ...it needs some tape or ribbon ..or a tag ???

It's in the balance and do you know in the creativeness of each of us & what we have on hand to embellish... I so look forward to this workshop in August ..
as so many of you will show different ways of creativity...
I get to see first hand that delight...

Check with Karen @ Mrs Martins Quilt shop I think she may have returned from her American travels to the Spring Quilt show...

AS WE BASK IN THE AUTUMN SUN

After  returning from the post office yesterday
The stamping the 40 pieces of fabric that I had painted the previous day began.
It is a lovely lovely sense of abandonment to watch what happens as  a stamp is selected & imprint is final on the fabric....
to step back & look at what else is needed so things do not look too twee.
The batches I did yesterday are destined to go on sale at a workshop in Boronia (June's patchwork shop) via Max & Louise Pattern Company on 14th June 2014.

^^^^^^^^^***&*&***^^^^^^^^

In the following few days I want to make some time to explore more ideas for the
workshop I will be doing in Melbourne on 16th August 2014
*^^^^^^***^^^^^^^^*
It takes one away from the angst of our budget and politics right now...
I love being able to kind of hunker down
take myself off away from the concerns ...
We are lucky to have such things at our finger tips, ....
A needle & some coloured thread
to stitch on some fabric..
Fabric somewhere to sew a quilt,
just keep putting those pieces together...!!!
Paints & a brush & something in front of me to place the soft bristles of the brush onto a little bit of paint
 &
let it slide over the medium be it wood or fabric or paper..
Listen to a bird
as we bask in the autumn sun

A little legal information

I just came across this after checking the Pinerest site for images taken directly from this blog & my website & posted onto other people's pages on this site.
http://mashable.com/2012/03/21/pinterest-copyright-legal-issues/

We need to be mindful that removing images is a copyright breach  & if the consequences can be costly.
I may sell you the image ... if it is taken without my permission.

Thanks but do check the facts & translate so this message is not missed.

Thank you for this consideration

Experimenting

copyright Barbara Smith

I worked on the blue theme a little further....it looks better in the flesh.....
I hand stitch as well as machined all the panels to the fabric background....
Most of the buttons/ decorations are off white.....little hints of colour sometimes. .. or a mother of pearl button....

Had to play with some swag things.... these have lots of coloured buttons.....bit of a mix of one lady Daphne & garden themed
I can imagine these swags hanging at a widow or cross a frame or blackboard.

The lace & bird & hearts decoration is now in a gorgeous blue distressed frame.

Divine knitted French scarf

www.theodoracleave.com
Nicole a lovely friend in France sent me these amazing gifts this week.
The scarf is the softest wool & design & I will wear it often ..I just adore it !
The cushion cover is so delicately painted ....and bears the name of my other blog...
Isn't it just super ????

Yesterday I trialled putting these together on the blue ticking ..
It was a fun experience which I am kind of picking holes in it..
Just a thing I do occasionally with my own work....LOL

This is the birds & hearts decoration in whites with linen & lace ...
I always want to try things of my creation which can be locked into one area...
This is different in that it has a vintage..an older world feel & a different style of French feel perhaps ?
I tried several bits on this....
See below the newer bird with a heart
&
the small 4 cm bird & hearts in white

Shifts my gaze a little !

On a Roll

copyright Barbara Smith 2014

It began as a kind of ordinary morning...
Painted some deer, did santa's beards x 10
couple of angels
Using the off white colours on my palette.
I stood for a break & spied the painted linen I had done yesterday & thought
I'll do this scrap of linen here....
paint & stamp for an event in Boronia in June...
Ha... that turned into odd strips to be tossed...
Oh no these can be used too..
So I have taken a road just a bit off the track
It is such a place I adore...
Painting & then choosing all the stamps in a kind of random rush...
Standing back to look ..
seeing some linen cut ready for button stories to be stitched ...
Pulling a button from a tray & so it began
I adore the stockings....
Then it was these French lady buttons
& those strips are just so exciting to see what will look good.
I can imagine some of you may think this is messing & that is all you will ever see...
I look at it & the creative potential is always an unknown & it's just exciting....
So this is the  style of the class for August in Melbourne..
that I keep talking of...
I get so excited when something new branches off from what I have begun some time ago now...
Like several years....the journey is always interesting.....

Need Cheering Up ???

I thought some of us need cheering up after the bombardment of proposed Govt changes...
The Fear factor is alive & thriving
So ...
I have enlisted 2 new santas & some newish guys to bring us into some sort of uplifted feeling...
The first Santa is replacing the Holly Santa later in life & is cheaper than the older holly santa is....He is very cheery.
The 25th December Santa is the big guy 12cm size
& so it goes on.....
I had a successful Sunday 27th April special for newsletter members....
If you would love to participate in these surprises just enrol for the newsletter.
